Solar Hydrogen Fuel Cell

Hydrogen and fuel cells are seen by many as key solutions for the 21st century, replacing fossil fuels that are diminishing. Fuel cells provide a clean and efficient supply of electric and heat energies. Hydrogen can be produced from any primary energy source to be fed in this energy conversion device to react with oxygen and this result in the production of electricity and water cleanly and efficiently. A model of a Hydrogen Fuel Cell has been developed and analyzed. The effects of different operating parameters on the performance of the cell have been studied experimentally using pure hydrogen on the anode side and air on the cathode side such as, the type of membrane used, a Nafion membrane and a PVC membrane were tested and compared, Nafion was found to improve the performance of the cell, In addition to that, the temperature of the cell and the temperature of gases were varied and it was proven that as the temperature increases the performance of the cell also increases. The experimental results are presented in the form of polarization curves, which shows the effects of different operating parameters on the performance of the cell. Finally, Future recommendations have been developed which will help increasing the efficiency of the system in future.
